Hazrat Umar was the second Caliph of the Muslims after Hazrat Abu Bakar. And was one of the most influential and powerful Muslim caliphs in history. He was a senior companion of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He succeeded Abu Bakr (632–634) as the 2nd caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate on 23 August 634, also an expert Muslim jurist popular for his Just and pious nature, that is why he earned AL-FAROOQ (“the one who distinguishes (between right and wrong)”)
Hazrat Umar was born in the Banu Adi Clan in Mecca; This Tribe was responsible for the arbitration between the tribes. His father’s name was Khattab ibn Nufayl and his mother’s name was Hantama bint Hisham, who belongs to the tribe of Banu Makhzum. When Hazrat Umar was young, he used to tend camels of his father in the plains near the Macca. Khattab ibn Nufayl was a Merchant and he was very popular in the Tribes for his intelligence and courage. Once Hazrat Umar said: “My father, Al-Khattab was a ruthless man. He used to make me work hard; if I didn’t work he used to beat me and he used to work me to exhaustion.
